Natural Bridges State Park

Sunset Inn is located just 5 minutes from Natural Bridges State Park with its beach, tide pools and Monarch butterfly preserve. All the way along this stretch of the coast is “surfing country.” Depending on the waves, you can see a multitude of surfers doing what they do best; it’s fascinating to watch. You may even encounter a competition being filmed or televised. This is a sports enthusiast’s paradise…with kayaking, wind surfing, boating, fishing, rock climbing, biking trails, forest hiking paths and trails. The cliffs also afford viewing points for a vast array of marine life: whales, seals and otters.

UC Santa Cruz

Also, just five minutes away is the University of California. Check the UC Santa Cruz schedule for many entertainment events, from Shakespeare, to all forms of music, the visual arts. UCSC sits on a broad expanse of high hills, meadows and redwood forests. From the top is a spectacular view of all of Santa Cruz, and the curve of the Monterey Bay, all the way to Monterey and Carmel.

Santa Cruz Boardwalk

Only 10 minutes from here is the famous Santa Cruz boardwalk. For more than a hundred years, visitors, worldwide, have been coming to the beach and Boardwalk. This amusement park, with its mighty rollercoaster, was the model for Disneyland’s Adventure Park in Anaheim. Next to the Boardwalk, you can drive out or walk on the Santa Cruz Wharf to enjoy its many restaurants, famous views and shopping.

Roaring Camp RailRoad

See California’s towering redwood forests from two historic railroads on your next visit to the San Francisco or Monterey Bay Areas. Roaring Camp RailRoad offers travel by steam train up a narrow-gauge track through the Big Trees to Bear Mountain or by beach train down the scenic San Lorenzo River to the sunny beaches of Santa Cruz. It all happens on the Roaring Camp Railroads in Felton.

Mark Abbott Memorial Lighthouse

This historical Santa Cruz lighthouse is also home to the Santa Cruz Surfing Museam, located at Lighthouse Point on West Cliff Drive. Overlooking internationally renowned surfing hotspot Steamer Lane, this little gem of a museum has photographs, surfboards, and other interesting items tracing over 100 years of surfing history in Santa Cruz.

Other highlights of the Westside are the artist’s enclaves in converted warehouses, to include boutique shopping and wine and beer tasting. There is also a weekly Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning. Santa Cruz County is famous for its sumptuous organic produce.
